Eureka's Masters

"Brethren:- Such is the nature of our Constitution, that as some must of necessity rule and teach, so others must learn to submit and obey."
                                                                                - Installation Charge

There are few orgnizations which invest in their presiding officers, the power and authority given the Master of a Masonic Lodge. Yet Freemasonry is a voluntary organization. Its members come of their own free will and accord, and if the Master becomes capricious or arbitrary in the exercise of this authority, they will surely leave in the same manner, and he will be playing to an empty house.

51 members have served in the East of Eureka Lodge. Two of them were Master for eleven terms; two served eight terms, and two more, five terms each. Of the 51, thirty four served more than one year.

As human beings, they have differed widely in talents, ability, and wisdom. Yet there is nothing to indicate that any one of them gave less than his best while in office. What more could be asked? They have earned our appreciation and gratitude.
