Acknowledgements

Compiling a history such as this one, consists mainly of digging out bits and pieces of information. Putting them together in some semblance of order and reducing the whole thing to writing, is the simplest part of the job.

This information has come from many sources, to whom we extend deep appreciation. Among the many who have been helpful, are Kemp Hawkins, Clyson and Ethel Coffin, Dick Ames, Nellie Boyles, Al Watts, Tim Watts and Albert Smalley. Particular thanks go to Bill Metzger for his help with the photography.

Among the numerous written sources we have consulted are the following: -

  • Minute Books of Eureka Lodge 1855 to date
  • Archives of Eureka Lodge
  • History of Eureka Lodge 1855-1870, by William S. Codman
  • History of Eureka Lodge 1870-1909, by Elmer E. Allen
  • History of Eureka Lodge 1909-1924, by Granville N. Bachelder
  • Proceedings of the Grand Lodge of Maine, 1855 to date
  • Files of the Rockland Courier Gazette
  • "St. George, Maine", by Albert J. Smalley
  • "Coaster Days", by Roy E. Meservey
  • "On Solid Granite", by Margaret Graham Neeson
  • Down East Magazine, various articles

Many thanks to you all.
