The Grand Lodge was opened in ample form, prayer being offered by the M. W. Bro. and Rev. David L. Wilson, LHD., Grand Chaplain.
On motion of R. W. Aubrey L. Burbank, it was
Voted, To dispense with the reading of the records of the last Annual Communication and that as printed they be confirmed.
Voted, That all Master Masons in good standing be admitted as visitors during the Annual Communication.
Voted, That the Grand Tyler be authorized to employ assistants, not exceeding four, to aid him in the work of his office during the session of the Grand Lodge, and that the Committee on Pay Roll be authorized to place the names of such employees upon the payroll, and that they receive the usual per diem for their services.
The following Past Grand Masters were thereupon escorted to the West of the Altar by the Grand Marshal, Past Grand Master M. W. Bro. Ralph J. Pollard being present nearby:

The Communication stood at attention and saluted the Flag as the Colors—a United States of America Flag and a Canadian Flag—were presented at the rear of the Altar by Sergeant, Brother Robert Stuart of Bavaria Lodge, Munich, Germany, and Airman Second Class, Brother LeRoy Logan of St. Mary's Lodge, No. 240, Concord, Kentucky, both stationed at Loring Air Force Base, Limestone, Maine.
The Pledge of Allegiance was repeated. The Communication sang one verse of " America," and one verse of God Save the Queen."

Due to the fact that Ill. Bro. Frank S. Land found it necessary to catch a train for the Annual Sessions of the Grand Lodge of New York, Grand Master Powers, caused him to be presented to the East and presented him with a Josiah Hayden Drummond Distinguished Service Medal. Brother Land responded as follows:
" Most Worshipful Sir: There are a very few moments in my life that I am really surprised, but this time, really, it is just hard to even talk. I certainly will value this award. I had no idea I would ever be in this place or have this great honor conferred upon me. I assure you I will never give you any embarrassment or cause for any feeling of question. I accept it with great humility and I hope I shall wear it with honor to you and to myself as well. Thank you so much."
