This listing is a basic overview of scholarships offered by the Grand Lodge of Masons in Maine and the various Masonically-related organizations within this jurisdiction. If your lodge or group has a scholarship program that's not listed here, please provide the Webmaster with that information.

GUIDANCE COUNSELORS: Please note that some of the organizations listed below change their application forms regularly/annually. Please check to be sure you have the current year's application!

Grand Lodge of Maine

Since 1988, the Grand Lodge of Masons in Maine has sponsored a statewide scholarship program granting at least one $500 scholarship to a graduating senior in every public high school in the state.

Eligibility:

  • Maine High School graduating senior
  • Leadership, citizenship, and financial need (as determined by your school's Scholarship Committee)
  • Planned attendance at any accredited college, university or trade school

Payment is made to the institution when the student enrolls for his/her second semester. Application forms are available through your school's Guidance Office.

Continuing Education Scholarships

The Grand Lodge of Maine also has a scholarship program dedicated to Maine’s life-long learners. The Maine Masonic Aid for Continuing Education offers 12 awards of up to $1,000 each, throughout Maine’s twenty-four Masonic districts to adults pursuing some form of post-secondary education.

Eligibility:

  • Must meet federal financial aid criteria for independent student status. To be considered an independent student, you must meet at least one of the following criteria:
    • Born before January 1, 1983    or
    • Legally married    or
    • Enrolled in a graduate level or professional education program    or
    • Have legal dependents other than a spouse    or
    • Be an orphan or ward of the court (or were a ward of the court until age 18)     or
    • Be a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces
  • Express serious intent in your educational plan
  • Show exceptional financial need (you may be asked to furnish documentation of financial need)
  • Express a continuing commitment to future contribution to your community

Applications should be completed online with Maine Education Services.


DeMolay & Pine Tree Youth Foundation

The DeMolay & Pine Tree Youth Foundation was formed in 1970 to benefit and assist the youth of Maine. Each year it offers 10-15 scholarships with amounts varying from $500 to $1,500.

Eligibility:

  • Maine High School graduating senior
  • Financial need
  • Planned attendance at any accredited college, university or trade school

DeMolay International Frank S. Land Scholarships

In honor of the Founder of DeMolay, a group for young men 12-21, the organization has several $800 scholarships distributed nationwide. More information can be found at http://www.demolay.org/resources/scholarships/.


Grand Royal Arch

The Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Maine awards five scholarships of $1,000 each annually.

Eligibility:

  • Commitment to remain chemical free
  • Masonic relationship
  • Academic excellence
  • Demonstrated financial need

York Rite Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons Scholarship

DeMolay awards several $1,000 scholarships annually to active or senior DeMolay members pursuing a post-baccalaureat education. Information and application forms can obtained from the DeMolay International Leadership Center at http://www.demolay.org/contacts/slc/index.shtml;


Knights Templar

The Grand Commandery of Maine of the Knights Templar has made a special commitment to provide scholarship aid in support of students in post high school endeavors. The number and amount of such scholarships is determined annually.

Eligibility:

  • Pursuing a 2 or 4 year college degree program or a graduate level program
  • Citizen of the US and resident of Maine

Scottish Rite

Leon M. Abbott Scholarships provide financial support for the continuing education of young men and women from Scottish Rite families and Masonic-related youth groups. Since 1951, more than $3 million has been awarded to students from the ten states comprising the Northern Jurisdiction of the Scottish Rite.

Eligibility:

  • Currently enrolled freshman, sophomore, junior or senior at an accredited college or university
  • Minimum grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale
  • And must meet at least one of the following criteria:
    • Child or grandchild of a Scottish Rite Mason in the Northern
      Masonic Jurisdiction OR
    • member of a youth organization sponsored by the Masonic fraternity in the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction OR
    • graduate of one of the 32nd degree Masonic Learning Centers for Children in the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction.

Scottish Rite Paul R. Kach, 33° DeMolay Essay Contest

Each year, this competition for DeMolay members awards winners nationwide with amounts up to $1,500. There are two competitions: one for young men in the 10th Grade or below and the other, for the 11th Grade and above. A new topic is selected each year.
